Prof Goh Yeng Seng of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Conducted an Exchange Session on the Development of the International Chinese Language Education Programme at Chongqing Jiaotong University

On 13th September 2024, the International Chinese Language Education major of the Tourism and Media School invited Professor Goh Yeng Seng, Professor of Linguistics and Language Education at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, and Executive Director of the World Association for Chinese Language Teaching, to visit the School to carry out an exchange meeting on the development of the discipline of International Chinese Language Education. The event aimed to discuss the realistic path to promote the in-depth development of international Chinese language education, deepen students’ understanding of international Chinese language education, expand teachers’ and students’ international academic horizons, and further promote academic exchanges and cooperation in the field of international Chinese language education. The event was hosted by the Master’s Degree Programme in International Chinese Education and the Department of Chinese Language and Culture.

Prof Goh Yeng Seng is a globally renowned linguistic scholar with profound attainments in the fields of international Chinese language teaching, global Chinese language variants, Chinese-English language policy and education, Chinese-English comparison and translation, and Chinese identity. The exchange session was hosted by Dean Zhang Yurong of the School, with the participation of teachers and students of International Chinese Education.

During the exchange session, Prof Goh Yeng Seng mainly discussed with the teachers and students from the historical process of international Chinese language, the international situation of Chinese language development today, and the suggestions and incentives for Chinese language teachers. Professor Gohs keen insights and humorous language benefited the teachers and students present, and the atmosphere was relaxed and warm.
